The Slow Poison
By Gretchen Retka
A shocking article was recently brought to my attention. Food additive “MSG” lies in almost all food sold by the common grocer, from chips to Top Ramen, salsa, chow mien, many canned food items and more. The effects of consuming MSG range from added obesity rates to a link to diabetes, migraines, autism, ADHD, and break down of the immune system.
According to one research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, who spent years working with the government, made a shocking discovery upon viewing scientific journals for his book “The Slow Poisoning of America”. According to this research assistant, “In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies.” Rats and mice are not organically obese so scientists must artificially produce their obesity. They make them obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born. According to this research assistant, “ MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates; causing rats (and humans?) to become obese.”
It’s important to note MSG is NOT a vitamin or a preservative. According to the book, “The Slow Poisoning of America”, MSG is used for it’s addictive qualities on the human body. MSG is a scientifically made chemical. The body doesn’t have the ability to break down MSG so it is stored in the body, consequently, slowing the beneficial effects of the lymphatic system, which wards off illness.
With all of this said, it’s hard not to feel a little scared with what we are consuming, but take ease in buying local at the Pomme de Terre! You will not find a trace of MSG in anything sold at the co-op. And on the rare chance something containing monosodium glutamate is found in our food you can and should notify us immediately so we no longer distribute that food item. Don’t let your health or the health of your loved ones suffer for lack of sufficient information on what you’re really being fed.
